This course is designed for individuals who wish to learn or refresh the essential principles of first aid and psychological support. The aim is to strengthen confidence and competence in responding appropriately when accidents or sudden illness occur.

The course is concise yet comprehensive, making it suitable for anyone who wants to build a solid foundation in first aid and supportive response skills.

4 hours (including breaks)

Learning objectives

Participants will gain confidence and basic competence in providing first aid and psychological support in emergency situations, including both physical injuries and emotional distress.

Course content

 

Introduction

An overview of what first aid involves and how to approach emergency situations safely and effectively.

Core principles

  • How stress and emotional reactions can affect people in emergencies

  • Providing psychological support

  • Infection prevention and personal safety

 

The four steps of first aid

  • Ensuring scene safety

  • Assessing the condition of the injured or ill person

  • Calling for help

  • Providing appropriate first aid

 

Basic life support and AED use

  • Checking responsiveness

  • Opening the airway and assessing breathing

  • Chest compressions and rescue breaths

  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

  • Recovery position

  • Relief of airway obstruction (choking)

 

First aid for injuries and medical emergencies

  • Internal and external bleeding

  • Burns and burn injuries

  • Head, neck and spinal injuries

  • Chest pain

  • Anaphylaxis

  • Stroke

  • Seizures

  • Diabetes-related emergencies

  • Breathing difficulties

 

Psychological support

  • Stress responses in emergency situations

  • Emotional reactions after providing first aid

  • Basic principles of psychological first aid

 

Age requirement

Participants must be 14 years or older.

 

Assessment

Participation and performance are continuously observed throughout the course. There is no written or practical examination.

 

Certification

Participants receive a certificate of attendance. Refresher training is recommended every two years to maintain skills, confidence and preparedness.

 

Pricing

  • 1–15 participants: 113,200 ISK

  • Additional participants (up to 5): 7,000 ISK per person

  • Individual participant (on-site course): 11,000 ISK
